AWKWARD MOMENT: Trump held May's hand as he led her from the Oval Office to their joint press conference. A photo of the hand-holding prompted rumours that Trump was afraid of stairs and needed help waking down a slope.

2/10 FEBRUARY 2: WHO - Trump's phone call with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was described as hostile and Trump's worst discussion with any other world leader. DISCUSSED - The Obama administration's deal with Australia to take refugees from Nauru and Manus Island. AWKWARD MOMENT - Mr Trump's scheduled one hour phone call reportedly ended abruptly after 25 minutes, and he accused Australia of trying to export the "next Boston bombers".

3/10 FEBRUARY 6: WHO - Trump speaks with New Zealand Prime Minister Bill English by phone. DISCUSSED - Bill English described Trump as "warm, civil and very thoughtful" during a call which ranged from immigration bans to the Super Bowl.

4/10 FEBRUARY 11: WHO - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. DISCUSSED - Trade and defence. AWKWARD MOMENT - An excruciating 19-second handshake after which Mr Abe appeared to roll his eyes in relief.

5/10 FEBRUARY 13: WHO - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. DISCUSSED - Trade, immigration and defence. AWKWARD MOMENT - In a photo that later went viral Trump is shown extending a hand to Trudeau, while Trudeau seemingly declines with a quizzical and mildly disgusted expression on his face.

6/10 FEBRUARY 16: WHO - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. DISCUSSED - The creation of a separate state as part of a peace accord between Israel and the Palestinians. AWKWARD MOMENTS - After decades of diplomatic dancing around the issue Trump bluntly told a taken-aback Netanyahu at a joint press conference "as far as settlements, I'd like to see you hold back on settlements for a little bit".

7/10 MARCH 17: WHO - German Chancellor Angela Merkel. DISCUSSED - NATO and Trump's insistence that all NATO members pay their fair share towards defence; trade and globalisation. AWKWARD MOMENT - Trump appeared to ignore an invitation by Merkel, whom he had previously described as a "person who is ruining Germany", to shake hands for photographers, leaving the German Chancellor to sit and smile awkwardly as cameras flashed.

8/10 MARCH 21: WHO - Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi. DISCUSSED - The combined efforts to tackle terror group Islamic State. AWKWARD MOMENTS - Trump had included Iraq on a list of countries affected by a January 27 travel ban.

9/10 APRIL 7: WHO - Chinese President Xi Jinping. DISCUSSED - North Korea; South China Sea; currency and trade. AWKWARD MOMENTS - Trump had stated the US has been treated unfairly and made terrible trade deals with China which he earlier had accused of currency manipulation.

10/10 THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY - JANUARY 26: WHO - Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto cancelled a planned meeting set for the January 31 after Trump insisted he would act on his campaign pledge to build a wall on the border and get Mexico to pay for it.
