World War II veteran Les Munro, the last of the Dambusters pilots, was going to auction his gallantry medals, in order to raise money for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and preserve a London memorial to Bomber Command.
But Lord Ashcroft donated $150,000 to the Benevolent Fund; ensuring both the preservation of the memorial and the return of Mr Munro's medals to New Zealand.
Today he personally delivered those medals back to Mr Munro.
