Steve Jones is the man in charge of Christchurch’s central coordination service, which took on over 1,600 referrals for drug and alcohol addiction just last year.
In 2015, the City Mission provided support to close to 1,500 residents battling addiction, which is almost double the amount it took on in the year prior to the earthquakes.
Emily Murphy visited a number of addiction services across Christchurch, where she found that five years on, the numbers of people struggling are the highest they’ve ever been.
