So much fantastic sport to celebrate from across the weekend, starting with Motorsport and a brilliant 1-2 Kiwi finish at Texas Motor Speedway yesterday.
Great Scott it was - times two.
Scott Dixon taking the chequered flag almost overshadowed by his rookie namesake McLaughlin claiming his first Indycar podium finish and that in only his third race and first ever on an oval track. Just another incredibly proud and historic day for NZ Motorsport with, on this form, many many more to come.
Joseph Parker did what he had to do which was win the fight. Agree or disagree with the spilt decision, and his opponent Derek Chisora certainly didn't, Parker looked fitter and a little faster than in other recent fights while still lacking the killer instinct and punching power needed to finish off someone who was gassed and there for the taking. Yes Parker took care of business, which is exactly what he had to do, but again showed nothing that'd scare the Big 3 of Wilder, Joshua and Fury.
Forget the last round of Super Rugby Aotearoa. The results were only ever academic given that the two teams contesting the final had already been found. The Hurricanes and Blues might claim they finished their seasons with a flourish but, on reflection, will look back at disappointing campaigns saturated in what ifs and if onlys.
The Warriors are for real. I'm happy to go early on this. Two wins in the last three weeks are season-defining for the same reasons. Having to guts out and close wins against St George and now North Queensland speak volumes for the character and new-found confidence of a side that thoroughly deserve their current top 8 spot.
And finally the Old Trafford protest this morning that resulted in the postponement of the Manchester United/Liverpool match. I absolutely defend the right of fans to protest and I, as a United fan of 41 years, also despise the Glazers and wish they'd sell their club ownership.
However there's a reason it's called "hallowed turf". To invade the stadium, steal stuff as "souvenirs" and desecrate our holy pitch by leaving rubbish all over it was low rent and thuggish. I always thought the whole point of our mob was to stop their lot doing that.
