A new TV series and book is shining a light on the history of New Zealand's comedy scene.Â
Funny As: The Story of New Zealand Comedy is airing Sunday nights on TVNZ 1, and is interviewing practically every comic New Zealand has produced.Â
But it’s not just a show, it’s also a book co-authored by producer of the TV show Paul Horan and journalist Phillip Matthews.
Paul Horan himself has a long history in comedy. After starting out in a comedy trio with Jon Bridges and Jeremy Corbett, he went out to co-found the New Zealand Comedy Festival, set up Auckland’s Classic Comedy Club, he’s worked alongside famous Australian funny men Rove McManus and Andy and Hamish, and was also the co-creater of The Project.
Horan joined Andrew Dickens to talk the series and book and unpack his experiences in the local comedy scene.Â
