In New Zealand, it is estimated that the number of people diagnosed with diabetes exceeds 250,000 people (predominantly type 2 diabetes). Within the New Zealand population, the prevalence of diabetes in Māori and Pacific populations is around three times higher than among other New Zealanders.

Lifestyle change is a cornerstone of managing and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes: 

  • Reduce calories and carbohydrates. Healthy balanced diet - fat and protein to keep sugar levels balanced.
  • Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise, such as a brisk walk, swimming, or cycling, on most days.
