Geopolitical instability and the budding trade war are likely to lead upcoming talks between New Zealand and the United States. 

Foreign Minister Winston Peters is heading to New York and Washington to meet with the likes of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. 

It comes at a time of uncertainty for New Zealand over the looming threat of tariffs. 

Peters says he'll have to see how talks develop - but this country has a good trade record with the US to promote.
