PAUL STENHOUSE: Technology
Google’s AI tech is being used by the US Military.
This is super controversial both inside and outside Google. The footage from drones flying by the US Military is being analyzed by Google’s tech to identify objects. According to reports the objects were identifying objects, but are now able to identify people coming and going from locations. The DoD didn’t comment. Employees who found out about the secret project via an internal mailing list, were disappointed Google’s tech was being used for this purpose — worried that their work was being used to kill people incorrectly. Hello an ethical debate.
A dating app is banning guns from profile photos
The app, Bumble, says gun violence doesn’t fit with their values. A super interesting statement: “Online behaviour can both mirror and predict how people treat each other in the real world,” the app added, in its statement. “Bumble has a responsibility to our users and a larger goal to encourage accountability offline.”
They’re now moderating al new pics and even going back and moderating previously uploaded photos. They’re probably using very similar technology to the US DoD!

ANDREW DICKENS: Music
Georgia Nott 'The Venus Project: Vol 1' - Andrew's verdict: 7/10.
A dreamy, floaty cinematic experience. It’s certainly not packed with hits, but it does sound like a Broods album played at half speed at 33 in the morning. The lyrics are distinctly female and while not overtly feminist, they do point out the absurdities and ironies of a woman living in 2018. A great listen on headphones and a very mature effort.
