A born and bred Aucklander, Phil Goff is the Mayor of Auckland, in office since 2016.

Representing Mt Roskill for 10 terms of parliament, Phil became New Zealand’s youngest ever cabinet minister in 1984. He was Associate Finance Minister, served as the leader of the Labour Party, Leader of the Opposition and was also Minister of Education, initiating New Zealand’s international education industry.

In February Phil announced that he would not seek re-election for a third term of Auckland mayoralty in September 2022, as he intends to retire after 41 years in politics.

Phil lives on a small farm with his wife Mary and has three adult children.
