Economic figures due out today are expected to be dire.

Treasury will unveil its Pre-election Economic and Fiscal Update this afternoon, to give political parties an indication of the state of the Government's books.

Small Business Minister Stuart Nash told Mike Hosking he's had a brief look at the data.

“We all know we've come through a recession, it's a one-in-100 year event and was never going to be pretty.”

However, National's Mark Mitchell claims border management hasn't been good enough.

"It’s put us back into lockdowns and there's a major economic price to pay for that. We are going to see that in the numbers, without a doubt."

Listen to the audio above as Stuart Nash and Mark Mitchell join the Mike Hosking Breakfast.
