Primary schools are hoping for a staged return to reopening, rather than a flinging open of their gates.
More details will be revealed today, on a plan to get Auckland kids back to school.
Auckland Primary Principals' Association President Stephen Lethbridge told Mike Hosking schools want their pupils back, but there's some trepidation because 5 to 11-year-olds can't yet be vaccinated against Covid-19.
He said it's a big day for kids, teachers, parents, and principals in Auckland and parts of Waikato and the upper Far North.
“As of today, school bubbles will have increased because retail is starting back, so we need to have some limits on the number of students back at school.”
Schools are already open for essential workers.
