The Mental Health Foundation wants hundreds of millions of dollars allocated for the sector in today's Budget.

CEO Shaun Robinson told Mike Hosking that's to make up for the big loss in value from growth in population and demand.

"A big part of that would have to be a major boost to crisis response services so that people, when they're in a really distressed situation, can get help when and where they need it and don't face the luck of the draw."
