Polling day for the Fiji election, and the world is watching to see if concerns about corruption will come true.
The race is between current Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama, who famously seized power in a military coup in 2006, and former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who himself led two coups in 1987.
To make matters even more complicated, Rabuka was only told on Monday he could actually be elected after being questioned by police for allegedly deliberately breaching financial disclosure laws.
Now there's an entire media blackout in Fiji for all media, both local and international, who can't even mention names or parties until after polling.
Fiji political expert Michael Field told Mike Hosking that it’s likely Bainimarama will come back into power, but the court case against Rabuka has propelled him back to the public perception.
“Despite the travails of going through court, he looks healthy and happy, while Bainimarama looks decidedly unhappy.”
