Minister for Women Julie Anne Genter says she waited to announce her pregnancy for personal reasons.

She follows Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, becoming the second member of parliament to announce she's pregnant in recent weeks.

Genter, who is vying for the Green Party's co-leadership told Mike Hosking she made the announcement about her pregnancy as soon as she felt she could.

"I did want to wait a little bit longer than the usual 12 weeks before sharing the news because I had, had miscarriages previously."
