Gun owners don't believe a new government bill will leave Kiwis any safer in their beds at night.
The government's Arms Legislation Bill has been leaked to the National Party.
Some of the changes it suggests involve more costs and regulations, a Commissioner to certify gun clubs every five years and a national gun register.
Service Rifle Association spokesman John Herbert told Mike Hosking there's no evidence those changes will help prevent another atrocity.
He says the government doesn't need to rush and should take the time to figure out what will actually work.
“The leak has left me with some serious concerns. I would like to know how much it's going to cost - and how much of our hobby will be affected.”
