Love Food Hate Waste spokesperson Jenny Marshall said the most waste comes from younger people, mostly students and people leaving home for the first time.

Marshall said there have been a number of redistribution groups popping up in the last three years, especially ones that collect from supermarkets at the end of the day.

"We're seeing community groups picking fruit off people's fruit trees and redistributing that out to food banks as well."
