A new e-scooter company's hoping safety features sets them apart from the competition.

Flamingo is launching in Wellington next week and zooming into Auckland and Christchurch in the following months.

The New Zealand company was created by 21-year-old's Nick Hyland and Jackson Love.

Love told Mike Hosking they've got some unique safety features like free helmets and safety ambassadors.

"At 9PM every night, our scooters are disabled for riding to prevent any night-time riding."

The e-scooters will also be cheaper to ride than rival Lime, charging just 30 cents per minute as opposed to the American company, which charges 38 cents.

Love says he is not worried about the growing number of e-scooters in New Zealand, as there is enough of a market for them all.
