Victoria University's Vice Chancellor says they don't want to waste time in legal battles.
Last December, Education Minister Chris Hipkins rejected the institution's bid for a name change to the University of Wellington
Yesterday, the university officially ruled out challenging that decision and plans to re brand instead.
Vice-Chancellor Grant Guilford says they're drawing a line under the issue.
"The public expects more of the university's then chasing ministers around in the court. We felt this was the more pragmatic process to get on with this and get the rebranding done and get the issue dealt with and move on."
He says they've spent about $400,000 so far on marketing options and trade marking.
"There'll be another couple of hundred thousand eyes as we actually now rejig the branding to take into account this new approach we're taking here, and also get the new trademarks in place."
