The Government is preparing to make an announcement today about the controversial He Puapua report.

The report outlines the Government's options for implementing the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson will provide details on how the Government plans to consult with Māori about those options, before consulting with the wider public.

Report co-author Claire Charters told Mike Hosking  the discussion doesn't need to be divisive.

“I certainly hope that once people engage with it that they realise this is nothing to be scared of, this is part of a national conversation. It’s about unity not division.”

New Zealand only signed up to the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, after almost every country had already done so.
