Wait-lists for public housing have tripled in the past three years, with wait times in some areas reaching more than a year.

Nearly 18,000 families are waiting for public housing options, and the figure is growing.

Monte Cecelia Housing Trust chief executive Bernie Smith told Mike Yardley the lack of affordable housing is at a crisis point.

‘We are getting enquiries daily from people living in their cars that are struggling to find a home. “

Smith says the Government has failed its promise to deliver on housing.

“The housing crisis is now in chaos and there are still people sleeping in their cars and on the streets today.”
