Wellington's Mayor says a new bill to allow more housing intensification goes against the Government's climate change objectives.
The rules would allow as many as three homes, up to three storeys, on most sites, without resource consent.
About 105,000 extra homes are expected to be built in the next five to eight years.
Andy Foster told Mike Hosking the last Government policy statement was all about intensifying around central city and key transport nodes.
“What this will do spread that out more, so it will actually undermine some of the Government’s other objectives around less carbon emissions and less people using private transport.”
