Auckland is catching up with the latest transport trend to sweep the United States.
500 e-scooters will be rolled out across the city next month, with 3000 more due to be rolled out in the months to come.
The scooters can be hired through an app, and dropped off for collection in any public place.
JMI Wealth director Andrew Kelleher told Mike Hosking everywhere the e-scooter schemes get approval, they become massive businesses.
"One of the US companies, valued at US$2 billion, raised US$300 million so this is a significant business."
He says it's another piece in Auckland's transport puzzle.
"It's all about what they call 'the last mile' that's the very last little bit of your trip that you can't do on the bus or train or shared driverless electric vehicle."
