Australia has just stripped 20 percent of its school curriculum content in a big revamp of maths and literacy in particular.
Changes to literacy include a greater use of phonics, and getting rid of predictable texts and the three cueing system that encourages children to guess words when learning to read.
By the time they're eight, Australian kids will be expected to be able to read fluently.
