Comedian Guy Montgomery is heading back on the road.
With the filming of the next season of ‘Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont-Spelling Bee’ “in the can”, Montgomery is now preparing for his upcoming tour: ‘50,000,000 Guy Fans Can't be Wrong’.
He told Tim Dower that he’s now getting the new show, the new jokes on the road to stress test them in front of smaller audiences.
“To make sure they’re funny when I perform in front of what will hopefully be bigger audiences.”
Montgomery said that his general rule of thumb when testing new material is that if he tries the same joke ten times and it continues to fall flat, it’s probably time to put it to bed.
“That is sort of one of the fascinating things about doing stand-up,” he told Dower.
“You could have a joke, you could perform the same joke, you know, in three different places and get three entirely different responses.”
“You kind of feel like you’re losing your mind.”
The name of his upcoming tour is a reference to Elvis’ ‘50 Million Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong,’ which Montgomery finds hilarious.
“It’s such a funny turn of phrase, like, any number of people can’t be wrong... it’s wrong immediately.”
