Refining New Zealand has confirmed it will close its Marsden Point refinery in the first quarter of next year. Instead, Marsden point will be used as an import only terminal. 

Z energy was one of the stakeholders who voted to stop refining. Because margins had been volatile over recent years. 

230 jobs will be lost when the refinery closes. 

John Carnegie from energy resources Aotearoa told Heather du Plessis-Allan the impact is hard to determine. 

“Diversifying the supply chains across fuel sellers will add diversity and resilience”
