An Australian current affairs show has doubled down on claiming a conspiracy between New Zealand and China.

Australia's 60 Minutes is accusing New Zealand of disloyalty to Australia in a new piece that accuses the country of turning into 'New Xialand'.

A commercial for the Sunday evening show begins with reporter Tom Steinford asking the Prime Minister if she has to bite her tongue to avoid upsetting Beijing.

The promo, which has circulated on social media, has been widely mocked by many New Zealanders.

Steinford told Heather du Plessis-Allan he's encouraging people to watch the full story when it airs this Sunday.

"It has been drawing attention for some time why New Zealand hasn't joined it's traditional allies in Five Eyes in signing these condemnations of China's human rights violence."

He says that he doesn't script the promo for the piece, but it has certainly got people talking.

However, since it premiered, the Government has finally responded to Steinford's requests to be interviewed.

"It's certainly got the Government's attention finally."
