Rose Renton on being a 'green fairy', Kiwibank's 'short-sighted' account closure

Kiwibank's responsible banking policy has struck again - this time, the bank is refusing to do business with nelson woman Rose Renton.

Kiwibank awarded her one of their 'local hero' awards last year for her work in helping sick people access medicinal cannabis.

Renton is a 'green fairy' who supplies cannabis products on the black market to patients who are ill but can't afford legal medicinal cannabis.

A year after giving Renton an award, Kiwibank have sent her a letter, saying they won't provide banking services for her anymore, because she no longer meets their banking terms and conditions.

Renton told Heather du Plessis-Allan that she was giving 14 days notice and that she had to move her money before the middle of the year - and that she was not given a reason for why her account was being closed. 

She says that it is sad that they are not supportive and encouraging.

"It's not very progressive and forward thinking and the current changes in cannabis laws, and medicinal cannabis being legal."

Renton says that she has not spoken to the bank, as she does believe they will be moved on it due to their policy quotes.

She says that she is breaking the law as she does not have a production license, as the current scheme for medicinal cannabis only helps corporate and not those who cannot afford to pay the full prices. 

Renton says that people come to her as a 'green fairy' as her oil works and does not get people high - "It just gets them well".
