Bankers are biting back at criticism from Commerce Minister David Clark.
Clark said banks weren't adhering to responsible lending rules before new legislation came in last year.
The new rules have been criticised by bank customers – who say they mean unusually tight scrutiny – despite lengthy credit histories.
The Bankers Association's Roger Beaumont told Heather du Plessis-Allan Clark's not correct.
“They took them seriously before the December 1 change, and they’ve continued to take them seriously since then.”
