Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says a transformation of Auckland's transport infrastructure wouldn't be possible without the Regional Fuel Tax.
Goff and the Transport Minister have announced $28 billion will be spent on Auckland transport projects over the next decade.
Roughly half of $1.5 billion raised by the proposed Regional Fuel Tax will go towards projects that benefit drivers.
Phil Goff told Larry Williams spending will include a new toll road along with improvements to public transport and road safety.
"Most of what we would be able to do without the Regional Fuel Tax would be just to do a few renewals and do some of the operational work."
