The Government is set to bring in Clean Car Import Standards from next year - and one major car manufacturer is concerned about how much it will cost consumers.Â
Legislation will be passed this year, with a target to reach 105 grams of CO2 per kilometre by 2025.
Toyota CEO Neeraj Lala told Heather du Plessis-Allan it's an aggressive way to start reducing emissions.
"I think there is going to require a fair bit of effort and a fair bit of negotiation from a number of car companies with their parent companies off shore."
He says the cars coming in need to be affordable.
"Low emissions is expensive. It does carry a premium, and at this stage, like any new technology, the price premium for new technologies is quite high."
