There's concern the police's use of crime fighting algorithms is make police bias against Maori worse.

Police have put out a new report showing they use around 25 algorithms to try predict future behaviour based on past, which the police call fairly unsophisticated.

Artificial Intelligence expert Karaitiana Tairiu says this is a future version of profiling.

“This data will show Maori in a different light than what a human would interpret reading that data.”
