The hospitality sector is feeling left out by Budget 2020.
The industry was hoping for, and expecting, a rescue package.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the sector didn’t need a specific package, as hospitality benefits from other sectors.
“The business that the hospitality sector will be driven in a large part out of tourism, so that’s where we will see a knock on effect.
“So those sector support packages will have a benefit to hospitality.”
Hospitality NZ CEO Julie White told Heather du Plessis-Allan that the budget fell well below their expectations.
"It is as though they forgot about us."
She says the industry is on its knees.
White says that the budget did not have much support for households, which means that people likely won't want to go out and spend.
"If there's no support, how are people going to go out and spend money and get the money circulating in the economy?"
