Shutting off the air conditioner won't save much save fuel.
That's according to the Motor Trade Association – as petrol prices sit at about three dollars a litre.
Consumer New Zealand has released a survey showing four out of five people are choosing to drive less to save fuel.
MTA energy manager Ian Baggott says putting air-con on while driving is better than opening a window.
“If you’re driving on the road at, sort of, certainly speeds over 70km, I mean, the open windows just add strain, it’s like driving down the road with a parachute behind you.”
