There are good signals for the tourism industry from the Budget.

The wage subsidy has been extended another eight weeks for eligible businesses.

Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis says this means various support mechanisms can be provided under one umbrella - including the likes of a domestic tourism campaign.

He says the extension of the wage subsidy scheme announced today will also help tourism businesses cover staffing costs and protect jobs.

Tourism Industry Aotearoa chief executive Chris Roberts told Heather du Plessis-Allan the argument will be over whether it's long enough.

"But certainly it was a number one wish for tourism businesses that the wage subsidy was extended."
