The tourism industry says entering New Zealand next year needs to be easy - because people are lining up to visit.

The Government's announced a plan for reopening borders to the world from early 2022.

Vaccinated travellers from low-risk countries would be able to skip isolation.

Officials are also developing a traveller health declaration system, involving pre-departure and arrival checks.

Tourism Industry Association chief executive Chris Roberts says the "New Zealand brand" is stronger than ever.

He says there's no doubt lots of people would like to come here and the system needs to be as simple and seamless as possible.
