Eli Epiha claims he thought twice about leaving Constable Matthew Hunt dying in the street after he shot him in Massey last year.
The 25-year-old admits murdering Hunt but denies attempting to murder his partner, Constable David Goldfinch.
Newstalk ZB's Chelsea Daniels told Heather du Plessis-Allan Epiha told the High Court at Auckland today Hunt asked for help.
"Epiha claims he thought about it for a few seconds. He said he thought about chucking him in the police car and driving him down to Waitakere Hospital, but after hearing sirens, he knew police were on the way so he decided to leave."
The Defence and Prosecution have finished their presentations, and the judge will sum up tomorrow.
