Consumer New Zealand is warning Rapid Antigen Test price gouging has already begun.

A price check shows Warehouse Stationery offers the lowest price – $31.99 for a pack of five – $6.40 per test.

Consumer head of content Caitlin Cherry told Andrew Dickens a pharmacy in Lower Hutt is selling the same pack on pre-order for $74.99 – or $14.99 a test.

“We would actually take quite a dim view of anyone who is seeking to profit excessively from the sale of RAT tests during these times, we’re in a pandemic and Omicron is spreading.”
