A belief Trevor Mallard isn't the right person to be Speaker of the House.
It's been revealed the taxpayer's footed a $330,000 dollar bill for the settlement and legal costs of a defamation action, after Mallard wrongly called a staff member a rapist.
Victoria University political analyst Bryce Edwards told Heather du Plessis-Allan Mallard hasn't done himself any favours in the role.
He says Parliament needs modernisation, and the Labour Party needs to think about whether they want Mallard there.
“A Speaker needs to have integrity, be non-biased, and treats people with good temperament -- all of which he says Mallard lacks.”
