It would be difficult to prevent RSV infection in the same way we're trying to prevent Covid-19.

Schools, hospitals and childcare centres remain on high alert due to a surge of RSV cases around the country.

Some hospitals are asking anyone with runny noses, coughs or children under the age of 16 not to visit.

College of GPs medical director, Bryan Betty told Heather du Plessis-Allan we can try and stop Covid from coming into the country, but not RSV.

"It's present every year, it's endemic in children and the problem was last year because the borders were closed we didn't have it."
