New Zealand Rugby chair Brent Impey says blocking the Silver Lake deal would be a terrible mistake.
Provincial unions have voted unanimously in favour of the private equity deal that will see the US investment giant take a 12.5 percent stake in the game.
But NZR still needs the consent of the Players' Association for the deal to go ahead.
Impey says it's about the community game and the kids who are struggling with no boots, jerseys or coaches.
"We're trying to solve that as an issue, and this is the plan to do that."
