You might struggle making your gingerbread men and your Christmas cake this year. 

A brown sugar shortage will make sourcing your Christmas baking ingredients a bit of a nightmare over the coming weeks. 

A recall in November has led to empty shelves. And New Zealand Sugar says they're hoping that at least soft brown sugar will be more readily available closer to Christmas.  

"Brown sugar is just made, when you buy it, you know how it's lovely and soft and sort of fudgy? They mix molasses into white sugar."
