Health Minister Andrew Little told Heather du Plessis-Allan a therapeutic product bill is in Parliament.
He says companies shouldn't be able to make claims about sunscreen, that aren't verified.
"I would say we would get onto it smartly next year. The bill is there, it's in Parliament already, it's started the process already, it's just one of those ones that unfortunately seems to have got pushed to the bottom of the pack every time."Â
The Consumer Affairs Minister is urging people in the lead-up to summer to check they're buying suntan lotion that works.
David Clark says people should choose carefully what they buy.
"IÂ expect consumers will punish them for that. Those who are saying they will do what they do will succeed in the market."
He says there's a process of paging complaints through the Commerce Commission.
