A law expert says police have the right to try and clear protesters off parliamentary grounds.
120 people have been arrested so far – with more expected.
More than a thousand police are responding to the protest, with more arriving in the coming days.
Waikato University professor Al Gillespie told Heather du Plessis-Allan in principle, police can force people off the grounds, if there are security worries.
“A better way would be to have negotiated with them, so they could come back the next morning, make it peaceful, be visible and be here, but this way is coming to a climax and it may not end well.”
