Eat My Lunch has landed the tender for the Government’s Ka Ora Ka Ako Healthy School Lunches Programme.
The business delivers lunches for office workers, where the meal you buy helps feed kids in lower socioeconomic areas in an ‘Eat One Buy One’ scheme.
The new contract means stepping up the operation to around 16,5000 kids' meals a day from next year.
Eat My Lunch founder Lisa King told Tim Dower that she started the programme five years ago as there was nothing else like it.
"Our mission has always been to ensure schools aren't going to school hungry."
She says they are currently doing just under 2,000 a day at the moment, so this new contract is beyond their “biggest, wildest goals”.
King says that they've discovered feeding over a million children that kids aren't as fussy as some adults think, and they've been able to expose kids to new and different foods.
