Using Bluetooth for Covid-19 contact tracing may not be straight forward.
The Government has been looking into Singapore's Bluetooth-based Trace Together app, but the Prime Minister has warned no tracking app provides a silver bullet.
AUT's head of computer science Professor Dave Parry told Kate Hawkesby that app uses Bluetooth to see how many other phones your phone has interacted with.
He says the problem is that the range of Bluetooth is such, that you may be in a completely different room than them, and haven't really had an interaction at all.
“The app doesn't work well across all the various types of smart phones people have.”
