I know we’re not supposed to believe politicians when they speak, but really, Winston Peters is taking the proverbial isn’t he?
Yesterday, after threatening to knock out David Seymour in 10 seconds flat in a bizarre Twitter rant, he also confirmed the one thing he’s been denying for weeks.. that NZ First has indeed hired the Brexit operatives to work for its election campaign.
The self described ‘bad boys of Brexit’ have signed a contract with NZ First to try to turn around the party’s woeful polling.
In one poll NZ First currently sits at 1.8%, the Brexiteers aim to get them up to between 13 and 15%. I mean good luck with that.
Back when Winston was denying all this, about a week ago, he told reporters he wouldn’t even comment on “this rubbish”.
Yet here we are.
Can we trust anything Winston says? A signed deal to have the pair do whatever it is they do, to whip up some hype around Winston Peters.. to create some positive media noise and attention for NZ First.
But will Kiwis be suckered in? Are we so gullible as to believe that whatever comes between now and September is authentically NZ First and can be trusted? Or can New Zealanders sniff out the paid workings of hired guns and see it for what it truly is? The last dance of a desperate party flailing in the polls and facing oblivion?
I saw the two men NZ First's hired interviewed the other night, they seemed to revel in looking mischievous, the whole thing appeared to them to be almost a joke. The pair, these ‘bad boys’ have previously stated that they will “bring mischief, mayhem and guerrilla warfare.." Is that what we want at the NZ election? Is that the best use of NZ First's money?
I don’t know what NZ First has paid these bad boys for their services of mischief and mayhem, or what results the party believes it’ll actually get.. but it does seem ironic that a party hell bent on hiring Kiwis for everything, and so often poo pooing ‘foreigners’.. has gone offshore to pay for help for their own party.
The British pair have promised ‘Winston on steroids’, ironically I thought that’s what we already had?
They said in one report that they’ve advised him to be happier. Really?
Having seen his form lately, and after his Twitter rant yesterday that he’d knock out David Seymour in ten seconds, I’m not sure this expensive offshore advice is actually being followed.
