One expert says the latest lockdown may be a sign Auckland's last lockdown didn't last long enough.
Auckland University public health expert Colin Tukuitonga told Kate Hawkesby the Government is making the right call in putting the city back in Level Three.
"Hindsight's a wonderful thing. I thought we were a little hasty in going down one, so this is the right thing to do."
He is also backing the Prime Minister's pledge that general vaccination roll out will start in South Auckland, as it's higher risk.
Around 75 percent of border workers who have already had their first jab, are from South Auckland.
Tukuitonga says it's good for all of us.
"Maori and Pacific folk are at increased risk of getting really sick and being in hospital
"It's not just for their benefit. If we reduce transmission then everybody benefits."
