Police in New South Wales have arrested a 14-year-old boy in relation to a stabbing at the University of Sydney today.
The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that a 22-year-old man was the victim of the alleged stabbing.
Police were told a 14-year-old boy had left the scene shortly after the incident, boarding a bus on Parramatta Rd.
He was then found by police near the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
A NSW police spokesperson said the teenager and the alleged victim were not known to each other.
A major police operation is currently under way, with multiple emergency vehicles on the scene at Western Avenue, which runs through the university campus, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Local media are reporting that one person has been taken to hospital. However, the extent of this person’s injuries are currently unknown.
“A police operation is under way on our Camperdown campus,” a university spokesperson told the university’s student newspaper.
University tutors said they had been given a lockdown notice.
“As a precautionary measure there may be an increased security and police presence on campus while investigations continue.
“The safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and members of the community is our priority, and we continue to work with authorities.”
More to come.
