UPDATED 7.48AM Hillary Clinton says she still believes in America, and always will.

WATCH ABOVE: Speech begins at 18:00

She's just delivered her concession speech to a crowd of supporters in a New York hotel.

Her supporters were told to go home at two in the morning after they'd waited for six hours to hear what they'd hoped - would be her victory speech.

That of course is now not the case .. as Donald Trump pulls off one of the most dramatic presidential victories in US history.

"I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country," Mrs Clinton said in her concession speech.

"This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for and I'm sorry that we did not win this election.

"This is painful and it will be for a long time. But I want you to remember this, our campaign was never about one person or even one election. It was about the country we love."

Hillary Clinton said now is about uniting as a country, and is urging Americans to have faith in each other, to not grow weary, and to not lose heart.

"Our responsibility as citizens is to keep doing our part to build that better, stronger, fairer America we seek.

We haven't shattered the hardest glass ceiling of all, but some day, somebody will, she said.

"And to all the little girls watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world, to pursue and achieve your own dreams."

She urged supporters to keep building a country they can be proud of.

"This loss hurts, but please, never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it."

Mrs Clinton said Mr Trump deserves an open mind and a chance to lead.

CNN's Jeff Zeleny said this is a huge moment for Clinton as it's the end of her presidential aspirations.

"Some of the advisors and supporters and friends that I have seen walk through the doors here of this New York hotel have long faces on them. They have been with her since 2007, throughout this campaign."

One Clinton supporter is Risa Levine who said the country has turned its back on history by rejecting her as the first woman President.

"It's devastating for women. I don't know what it's going to mean for my reproductive rights, I don't know what's it going to mean for my health care. I just wonder about the historic retelling of history. That's all I have to say."
