There's chaos and confusion on the Hungarian border, as floods of refugees attempt to cross over from Serbia.

Reporter Rachel Smalley said the language barrier is making the situation even more difficult.

She said the lack of communication is chaotic.

"People are just getting very frustrated, women with children, trying to get on buses. No one will communicate and they don't know where they're going or where the buses are taking them."

She said refugees are desperately trying to make their way beyond Hungary to places like Germany, the Netherlands, Finland and Sweden.

Smalley said the police presence is intimiadting.

"They are largely men, they are huge - they're armed with battens. They form a line - 3 deep - and they stand between the refugees and the buses."
